phil moffa is an accomplished audio engineer who has worked with nile rodgers, seth troxler, anthony parasole, the martinez brothers, kool keith, roc marciano, and many others. we are honored to release his first solo effort for plan b recordings, a quartet of tracks made from the various machines in phils butcha sound studios. from the hypnotic *warm wave* to the berghain-worthy *premonition*, this is modern machine music for dark dance floors.

the maaskant polychoral style was a type of music of the late modern electronics and early indie eras which involved spatially separate voices singing in alternation. it represented a major stylistic shift from the prevailing polyphonic writing of the early electronic generation, and was one of the major stylistic developments of the 90s which led directly to the formation of what we now know as the pure modern style. a commonly encountered term for the separated analog choirs is cori analogici spezzati — literally, phased choirs. the a-side, featuring eyo olokun, signifies unfathomable deep grooves. that is, the instinct that there is something worth knowing, perhaps more than can ever be learned, especially this bassline that most people spend a lifetime pondering.

disco modernism is proud to announce the imminent release of a brand new 12 inch by italian new wave trio out of limbo. *cold stars* is taken from the band first album *kino* and it has been remixed by the italoconnection team of fred ventura and paolo gozzetti using their trademark modern italo sounds, powerful and melodic with a great respect of the original composition. on the b side you will find three great songs in a more reflective mood produced by the band, b3 is a cover version of a song made popular in the early 80’s by british new wave band the passions.

ltd nice price action !! >give it to me hot< is a 4-track ep that pays tribute to one of the hottest, raunchiest (but sadly short-lived) funk/punk groups from the early 80s, sexual harrassment.
sexual harrassment was started by radio dj lynn tolliver whilst he was working at mca records, and the cleveland-based group had a gold single on the heat/montage label. their rarer 6-track album from 1983 has become a collectors item. to do their tracks justice, we asked modern day artists who are synonymous with a sex-driven funk attitude to either cover or reinterpret the originals.

hardway bros (otherwise known as sean johnston of a love from outer space) returns to throne of blood with their second ep. after successfully exploring belgian new beat influences on last years *a/b music / shorty* release, sean continues to explore the darker side of vintage electronic tropes with the sleaze ep.

super disco edits has dug deep again and unearthed this killer un-issued crossover modern masterpiece from 1975. it is set to grace the decks of the soul lovers across europe and the states. the 45 comes with the same track on both sides and a 3 page insert as well, nice!

mallorcas dakpa has been on a roll since amam released his debut ep last fall. he has contributed to several compilations, including amams own hand out series, kina music s fade to k pt. 3 and wizz vinyl s sonar sampler 2014, plus eps for labels like district raw and serial number 849. but amam gets the honor of issuing his first own vinyl release, the distres ep. the opening title track is an exercise in jacking minimalism, vibrant tech house with just the essentials, but more than enough to get the floor moving. then, ademus gets into a slightly more colorful groove, with tropical percussive interplay and some whooping voice for a humanistic accent (is that brigitte bardot?). on the flip, virgo gives a modern update to the frenzy of acid house. the title alone brings virgo four to mind. on that note, this one is an effective tool for warping minds and evoking spastic dance moves. finally, the dependable gaetano vinci a.k.a. hooved reinterprets ademus with a heavy dose of melodic funk and symphonic washes, making the track into an entirely new creation.

running backs 50th anniversary comes courtesy of redshape. after his utilitarian bonuz beatz effort earlier this year, the masked man is back on the monolithic techno tip. graced with a sense of tradition and a modern stlye of execution, leaves is the sort of warehouse rave signal that exceeds the sole purpose of a tool. speaking of which, it comes in two different mixes to choose from accompanied by two unclothed versions for the creative dj mind.

after 4 years of silence, kreon & lemos are back with their first release on their own imprint, equivalence. having already a number of collaborations on labels such as be chosen, resopal and we are, the duo finished a number of projects that are going to be released exclusively on equivalence. the first record offers two dancefloor oriented techno tracks with heavy low frequency, modulated delays and heavy filtering - a modern take on the duos past collaborations.

after a few years away from the scene modern heads aka dino sabatini & gianluca meloni are back with a new 12 inch >chapter ii<. the second chapter of an adventure that began in 2001 in a basement in rome, a journey through various labels - elettronica romana, dozzy records and stroboscopic artefacts.

here it comes the third release from rising label with an original track from deepbass, another rising artist, that gives the name and life to this record and gets completed by remixes from abstract division, max_m and p.e.a.r.l. the original track, -sleepwaker-, is a deep gummy trip into the deepbass world, shaped on modern techno. following, we can find abstract division remix, where the dutch guys goes on purposing a very beautiful version keeping at time an eye posted to the dance floor. on the b side we can find max_m s version, a track that goes punchy and energetic from the beginning while keeping all the essence from the original, simply and very effective. p.e.a.r.l. closes the ep going darker and harder with a broken track, -loopy- and powerful version to complete another finest techno ep.

the 6-track *swim mountain ep* was self-recorded and produced by multi-instrumentalist tom skyrme half in los angeles, half in london and features the widely-blogged *dream it real*. the ep is a psych-pop collage of sounds fusing 60s studio ethics and modern production techniques. drawing influences from the harmony-heavy songwriters of the 60s and 70s (argent & blunsonte, rundgren, nillson and the wilson brothers) and the bossa nova chord progressions of brazilians tom jobim and joao gilberto. having been composed and recorded between the juxtaposing environments of rainy london streets and the sunny beaches of la, this accomplished debut has a a genuinely unique sound that is truly striking for a debut record.

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.

the first full ep on credo by folker zwart from amsterdam, and here we go with some modern techno amusement like a fresh breeze and showcasing the talent in here. while all the shades are undoubtly focussed on the dancefloor shade 1 is probably the most peaktime-like approach while shade 2 creates an amazing atmosphere with its pure and clean pads and sounddesign. shade 3 even crosses some slightly jazzy path and alltogether a perfect definition of the credo idea to present colors and not only shades.

tian gjevik (eod,cn), passionate and curious about electronic music, found in a trondheim thrift store a tape of the norwegian legendary project : the educational music -sports/tools-. he contacted one of the two composers called dildrian schrodinger. he has managed to negociate with him a deal for a vinyl license with weme records. we can find in this project ordered by the norwegian state all an experimentation work with electronic machines from the 1980 s. it is sometimes accompanied by a clumsy singing quite modern at that time.

we are proud to unveil the seventh release on telefonplan, osirus ep from anders hellberg, a berlin based producer and dj from south sweden. with osirus ep, it is immediately clear that anders is a fan and follower of the old school techno with elements of detroit techno and acid. four righteous slabs of hardware goodness is on the menu this time, all served tight and driving. from the opening track *beyond the stratosphere* with its pulsating rhythm and hypnotizing chords to *gondor*, a heavier, darker and dubbier acid anders showcases his uniquely modern flavour of techno. on the flip, *osirus* is a floor burning chord jam and *respond* finishes things perfect with hypnotic melody.

ocoeurs latest album a parallel life finds franck zaragoza showcasing his adeptness at fusing thoughtfully crafted melodies with twitchingly syncopated techno. in a recent interview berlin music portal kultmucke introduced zaragoza something of an idm prodigy and while thats a fair summation due to his preference for malleable beatwork and his use of heavily processed field recordings there is more there than simple glitchery. zaragozas melodies, while often shrouded in hazes of static, affect the cinematic minimalism of modern composition. these such comparisons put him stylistically hovering somewhere between the likes of arovane and max richter which is no meager feat. a parallel life aches, breathes, pulsates and is forever churning. it has a subliminal soul that is all too often a casualty of electronic music of this style. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

a modern boogie 7 inch on unirhythm!? yep, you heard right! marcellus pittman graces the a-side of the disc on *1044 coplin* - a nice slice of mid west funk sure to appeal to all the boogie heads worldwide. on the flip we have the unirhythm debut from detroits own john cannon. john c is a veteran producer and mc, most recently featured on the j dilla album *rebirth of detroit*. no suprise there - we definitely hear some dilla on *j.c.s groove*. essential!

with the stride 12 inch, isolated lines lays down another thick slab of contemporary and modern dance music. swiss producer plays with the rhythmic dynamics of techno, striking a balance between avant-garde and accessible.

mechanisms industries re-emerges from the tape studio to welcome the return of fanon flowers with 3 tracks of pure dark, gritty modern techno. lots of mechanical sequences for maximum peak time dance floor performance.

this is an ep bristling with fresh house sounds and once again suggest that gipsy music is on its way to becoming an essential modern outlet.

five highly absorbed months of compiling later and, at last, we have the finest, truest definition of modern soul yet - soul love 2014. no effort has been spared in bringing this album together, all corners of the globe scoured over much of last year for 25 contemporary cuts of exquisite groove, musicianship and emotion.

david k is the parisian-turned-berliner producer who has been a prominent artist within the underground house scene since the late 90s, having first joined forces with dan ghenacia of apollonia when releasing his bestseller * boul de nerf* on freak n chic. a fruitful career in production led to music on labels like cocoon, visionquest, supplement facts and bpitch control, while his new album * out of range * is just about to drop. ten years in the making and signed to tiefschwarzs souvenir, david proves his music is still as relevant today as ever. as one of the main artists on freak n chic, david k seemed a natural fit for apollonia to approach...* david is an old friend and talented produced who we have known from the beginning back in paris. of course we wanted to see what he could do for the new label, as you know by now we apollonia are always referring back to our roots. a 2-track package, * middle-aged romance* is characterised by its bell melody and hard-hitting bassline, an electric story moving between ethereal wonder and an intense workout. * drop the beat* perfectly demonstrates the classic chicago house style david k and apollonia first enjoyed together all those years ago, but adding a very modern, textured touch. coming 2014, apollonia invite premiesku to the label – the combination of livio & roby and their pal george g – and also the newest addition to the lola ed roster.

after first performing together at sonar festival with what was essentially a live version of our respective b.o.a.t.s. and adamant albums, thomas and i decided to expand on these ideas for something more broad and improvisation-centric.

rndm (pronounced *random*) is a new musical group featuring pearl jam bassist jeff ament, singer-songwriter joseph arthur and drummer richard stuverud. in april of this year, joseph arthur joined jeff ament and drummer richard stuverud in montana for a jam session, which would give birth to rndm *acts*. within an hour on that first night in the studio, the trio had bashed into shape an ament song called *what you cant control*. and after four days with longtime pearl jam engineer brett eliason behind the boards, the group had nearly 20 finished tracks, which were eventually whittled down to to 12 for this album. the double vinyl comes in gatefold sleeve and contains a download code.

this album is a highly convincing distillation of what makes music modern today and, in the process, adds to it through subtraction of what is not essential. shrimp that sleeps is just that though, essential that is! lp contains free cd with bonus track & remix by sagat!

sweden s influence on modern techno can never be overrated. over the past twenty years the ever growing band of dedicated artists emerging from the country have each played a huge part in the global growth and development of the sound.

italys niccolo detti aka nicco launched the recline music imprint mid 2008 and has since gone on to release material from the likes of oxia, mic newman and anonym. here we see nicco return with some new material via the imprint, in the shape of moon games, whilst enlisting some heavy hitting remix artists as well to create a punchy package with a widespread appeal. the original mix of moon games kicks things off, a classic meets contemporary house number. fusing old school elements such as meandering organ lines and stuttering guitar licks, while dubbed out vocals and bumpy rhythms add a modern charm to the composition.

*somebody* is the first single from the new aurra album *body rock* due out later this year on family groove records. once again the world gets to experience a lost disco-funk masterpiece providing another glimpse into the genius mind of slave founding-member steve washington & brides of funkenstein / p-funk singer sheila horne. body rock will be the second and final unearthing of the lost but found master tapes originally recorded for quincy jones qwest imprint in 1984. slap bass, heavy synths, linn drum, sultry vocals... this is modern funk at its finest!
the 24-track master tapes were transferred digitally and then mixed on an ssl board by kamal humphrey at his all-analog flying carpet studios in los angeles. the result is a full sound enhanced by the natural analog process using todays digital technology only when needed to clean up the files.
da-m-funk adds a bit of dirt and grime by putting his signature re-freak on the track. a confirmation from los angeles ambassador of boogie funk that this is in fact the the un-cut funk and nothing but the funk.

q-ziqs new ep is a thing of joy and hazy childhood memories. the music of the future as it felt in the early eighties, filtered through the rhythmic shapes of more modern dance music innovations
